THE 56 EVERYDAY CARDS
The Minor Arcana
Four suits — Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles — mapping the terrain of daily life.
What Is the Minor Arcana?
If the Major Arcana speaks to the great archetypal forces of a life, the Minor Arcana attends to the texture of daily experience — the practical challenges, emotional weathers, thought patterns, and material circumstances that make up most of living. Comprised of 56 cards across four suits, the Minor Arcana is the working vocabulary of the tarot, granular and specific in a way the Major Arcana rarely is.
A Minor Arcana card is not less significant than a Major Arcana one — it is differently pitched. Where the Wheel of Fortune speaks to fate and cycles, the 7 of Pentacles speaks to the particular experience of waiting for a harvest you have worked long to earn. Both are meaningful; they simply operate at different scales.
The Court Cards
Each suit contains four court cards: the Page, the Knight, the Queen, and the King. Pages tend to carry youthful or beginning energy — curious, unformed, and open. Knights are defined by movement and approach — how they pursue what they want. Queens embody the mature internal expression of their suit. Kings represent its mastery in the external world. Court cards may indicate people in your life, aspects of your own character, or a particular quality of energy at work in a situation.
The Numbered Cards
The numbered cards run from Ace (the pure seed of the suit's energy) through 10 (its fullest expression or resolution). The Ace carries potential — undirected and new. The lower numbers (2–4) often speak to establishment and early development. The middle numbers (5–7) tend to bring challenge, complication, or choice. The higher numbers (8–10) carry the weight and culmination of what the suit has been building toward.
Element: Fire
The suit of Wands burns with fire — it governs passion, creative ambition, will, and the energy to act. When Wands dominate a reading, the central territory is likely one of drive, inspiration, or the challenges and rewards of pursuing something you genuinely care about.
